It’s Back to School nights for parents and children

NEWPORT-MESA -- From a tent at Sonora Elementary School to lavishly
decorated classrooms at Paularino, ‘tis the season for Back to School
nights.
Sonora Elementary School has lavish plans for today’s Back to School
night.
“It’s a really big event for us,” said office manager Peggy Olrich.
At 5:30 p.m., Sonora parents and their children are invited to come
have dinner -- they can bring or buy from Carl’s Jr., which will be
selling hamburgers at the school.
Everyone, however, is asked to bring a sweet for a potluck dessert,
which parents will eat in the multipurpose room while children frolic --
supervised -- on the playground.
Then, parents will visit their children’s classrooms, and learn in
detail what their children will be studying throughout the year.
At Paularino, on the other hand, Back to School night is for parents
only, and teachers will describe everything students need to do for a
successful year.
And at Killybrooke, PTA members, fund-raisers and the principal will
address the parents, and then parents will visit classrooms.
