WALK FOR PEACE: The Sixth Annual Walk for Peace begins at 11 a.m.
today at Triangle Square in Costa Mesa. Three hundred walkers from all
over Orange County are expected to circle the square at this event
sponsored by the Bahais of Orange County, the Triangle Square Merchant
Assn., Newport Mesa Irvine Interfaith Council, United National Assn.,
Veterans for Peace, Whole Foods Market, Witness for Peace, Amnesty
International, NAACP and Alpha Graphics Print shops.
The day begins with exhibit booths at 11 a.m., walk warmup by Reliance at
11:45 a.m. and the walk begins at noon. At 1 p.m., civic leaders will
address the walkers and prizes will be awarded. How do you participate in
the 1999 Walk for Peace? Just show up with comfortable clothes and shoes
and join in the expression of peace.
ROLLING ON THE RIVERBOAT: The Newport Harbor Nautical Museum and the
Newport Balboa Rotary Club have teamed up for an evening of Riverboat
gambling, food stations, silent auction and live entertainment Oct. 2 at
the museum.
From 6 to 10 p.m., guest will dine on food provided by the Riverboat
Restaurant and do a little wagering on the professionally operated gaming
tables, from which winner will receive points for a special auction.
Silent auction prizes include weekends at a variety of Orange County and
Las Vegas hotels, dinner for two at local restaurants and a variety of
merchandise. Tickets at $40 per person are available by calling (949)

TUESDAY -- 7:30 a.m.: The Newport Beach Sunrise Rotary Club meets at the
Balboa Bay Club. 5:30 p.m.: Soroptimist International of Newport Harbor
meets at the Santa Ana Country Club for a program on “Hands on Service.”
6:30 p.m.: The Costa Mesa-Newport Harbor Lions Club meets at the Costa
Mesa Golf and Country Club.
WEDNESDAY -- 7:15 a.m.: The South Coast Metro Rotary Club will meet at
the Center Club. Newport Harbor Kiwanis Club meets at the University
Athletic Club. Noon: The Exchange Club of Orange Coast meets at the Bahia
Corinthian Yacht Club. 6 p.m.: The Newport Balboa Rotary meets at the
Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club for a Craft Talk by member Bob Thayer.
THURSDAY -- 7 a.m.: The Costa Mesa Orange Coast Breakfast Lions Club
meets at Mimi’s Cafe for a business meeting. Noon: Kiwanis Club of
Newport Beach-Corona del Mar meets at the Bahia Corinthian. The Costa
Mesa Kiwanis Club meets at the Holiday Inn. The Exchange Club of Newport
Harbor meets at the Riverboat Restaurant to hear retired Judge Bud
Franklin. The Newport-Irvine Rotary Club meets at the Irvine Marriott to
hear Andrea Woolf on effective listening.
