Stampede claims regular season title

Cody Merrick pushed through a pair of goals and the Stampede

wrapped up a perfect regular season last weekend following a 4-2 victory

over the Little Dawgs in a Campbell Division match at Coast 2 Coast

Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.

Merrick’s brother, Kyle, also scored once in the victory, and

Michael Marchand had an assist as the Stampede enters this weekend’s

postseason tournament with a 10-0 record.

Joey Mahoney scored both goals and Jared Rassler assisted one of

those scores to pace the Little Dawgs, who fell to 1-8-1 overall, yet

will compete in the Campbell postseason playoffs.

In other games:

Thunder 6, Sharks 1

Both William Dewit and Reed Thomas scored twice, both Kevin Lassen

and Kyle MacLeod scored once, Sean Wing and Allison Dufault each had an

assist, and goalie Eric Morejon recorded 16 saves to lead the Thunder,

who ended the regular season tied with the Jets for second place at

6-3-1; Chris Lien scored the lone goal for the Sharks, now 1-9 overall.

Stars 12, Sharks 4

Leading scorer Nathan Sutton poured in five goals to run his

season total to 28, Scott Cassidy scored four times, Dylan Higginson

added three goals, and Sutton, Higginson, Nicholas Anderson, and Aaron

Sutton all had an assist as the Stars evened their record at 5-5; Chris

Lien scored twice, both Cory Cunningham and Jason Power each scored once,

Connor Burns had three assists, Cunningham assisted two goals, and Brad

Giczewski added another assist to lead the Sharks.

Jets 2, Flury 1

The Jets improved their second-place record to 6-3-1 with the

victory; the Flury will enter the playoffs with a 4-5-1 mark.
