The Huntington Beach Mighty Mite Green Chargers opened their 1999

Pop Warner season in a big way, scoring a 12-0 shutout victory over the

Santa Margarita Blue Eagles Saturday at Edison High.

The Green Chargers offense rolled behind the rushing of both

Anthony Buckley and Jullien Herrera, both of whom scored touchdowns, and

Bryan Kobylka, whose 25-yard run set up Buckley for the game’s first

score.

Huntington Beach’s defense recorded the shutout behind the play of

Nicholas Miller and Joe Green, each of whom led the team in sacks.

Like their Mighty Mite brethren, the Jr. Pee Wee Green Chargers

launched their season with the shutout at Canyon Hills.

Josh Herrera scored both Huntington Beach touchdowns and also

added an extra point, and Eugene Starikov also had a strong game in the

rushing department.

Les Obie had an interception to lead a Green Charger defense that

allowed the Bobcats just 20 yards in total offense.
