Two Newport Harbor sophomores compete in Olympic Cup
NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High sophomores Aaron Peirsol and
Carly Geehr joined up with other American swimmers this past weekend to
win the Olympic Cup. This first year competition pitted the Americans
against a team from England and France.
Peirsol won a gold medal in the 200-meter backstroke and a silver in the
100-meter backstroke. He was also part of the silver medal squad in the
400-meter IM relay.
Geehr won an individual gold in the 200-meter freestyle. He was also part
of the 400-meter freestyle relay team that won the gold and the 800-meter
freestyle relay team that took home the silver.
Both Peirsol and Geehr will be competing in the Olympic Trials at
Indianapolis to hopefully qualify for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.
