Gentry shines in international tournament

NEWPORT BEACH - While Corona del Mar High’s boys water polo team

lost their season opener to Servite, Sea King two-meter man Garrett

Gentry had a good weekend with the U.S. Men’s Water Polo Youth Team. The

U.S. recently captured the gold medal at the International Youth

Tournament in Eger, Hungary. Gentry, who is a senior, was one of three

players from Orange County.

Gentry scored seven goals during the tournament. He made his mark in the

team’s first game against UTE (Hungary). Gentry scored five goals to lead

his team to a 25-8 pasting of the Hungarians. In the next game, Gentry

scored a goal against Szeged (Hungary) in a game where seven different

Americans scored.

Gentry will rejoin CdM for the season. The U.S. team is next scheduled to

participate in the North American Championships in Victoria, Canada at

the end of this year.
