Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A Southern Californian most of her life, she was born and raised in Illinois.
She was a Sunday school teacher, excellent seamstress, great cook, fabulous storyteller, wonderful decorator, prayer warrior, singer of hymns and a lover of family, friends, golf and coordinating costume jewelry. Most importantly, she loved the Lord and is with Him now.
She was a founding member and the telephone chair of the Newport Harbor Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority which supported Hoag Memorial Hospital, national cancer research and other charitable causes. She worked for many years at the Snip’n Stitch in Corona del Mar.
Virginia is survived by her devoted daughter Taja Hughes (David) and son Gaylord (Marsha) Tohill, Jr. Her daughter Pamela Gibbs (Hugh Gibbs), sister Maxine Rice, brother Robert Weiss and former spouse, Dr. Gaylord E. Tohill predeceased her.
She is also survived by grandchildren Cindy Hughes (Paul Schmidhauser), Kelly Koren, Stacy Hutcheson (Gary), Kevin Koren (Lori) and Richard Tohill and great-grandchildren Hayley Hutcheson, Caroline and Madeleine Schmidhauser and Kyle, Kollin and Lainey Koren.
Her family is comforted in the knowledge that she is in the presence of Christ Jesus for eternity.
