Jim (Little Shiner) Roberts, 76 of Costa Mesa, CA passed away sleeping peacefully in his favorite chair on March 12, 2011 at his home in Costa Mesa, CA. Jim was born on August 27, 1934 in Utah to parents Lillian and Boyd Roberts. He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in 1952 then received a B.S. in Soil Science from Cal Poly.

Jim was a bona fide expert in the fine art of “Garage Sailing” and could be seen most weekends cruising around Costa Mesa in his cherry red 1965 Ford Mustang looking for the best deals in town. His love of jazz music was evident when you would walk into his Costa Mesa home to the sounds of Billie Holiday or Duke Ellington blaring on the hi-fi. He had a fondness for a proper steak, enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, and was the kindest person I ever knew. His thumb was the greenest in Costa Mesa, evidenced by the bounty of tomatoes, squashes, berries, avocados, and citrus that would drip from the vines and trees in his home garden. He enjoyed biking, golfing, horse races, and The Lakers. A true Costa Mesa & Newport original, Jim would always frequent annual local events such as the Fish Fry, the OC Fair, the Toshiba Classic PGA tour, and the Newport Harbor Boat Parade.

He will be dearly missed by all that knew him.

He is survived by daughter Holly Roberts of Costa Mesa.
