Born in Alexandria, Egypt on September 4, 1932 to the late Fouad Nohra and Odette Antonios., Saad (John) Nohra passed away peacefully in Alameda, California on December 23, 2011 surrounded by his beloved wife, Irene Nohra and his children
Guy(Linda) Nohra, Carol (Gary) Crane, and Maureen Nohra (James Gilchrist). He also leaves behind his loving grandchildren, Brittany and Camille Nohra, Tess, Jason, and Hannah Crane and Quinn and Chloe Gilchrist. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Edmund Nohra, Joseph Nohra and Josephine Nohra.
Saad worked for Middle East Airlines in Beirut, Lebanon for twenty years. In 1976, he immigrated to the United States and settled with his family in Alameda, California. He thrived as an executive in the food industry until he retired from U.S. Cold Storage in 2003. His passions included his family and friends, fishing, his vegetable garden, and cooking. In his 20’s, he participated in the 1956 Helsinki Summer Olympics in track and field, and in the Pan-Mediterranean Basketball League Championships. He fulfilled the American dream for himself and his beloved family.
Our family gratefully acknowledges the outpouring of support and love we received throughout these challenging times. Funeral services were held at St. Philip Neri Church in Alameda, California on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012. Saad has been interred at the Cathedral of Christ the Light, in Oakland, California.
