Nan S. Chapman<br/>April 7, 1927 - April 12, 2015
Nan S. Chapman, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 12, 2015, with family and caregivers at her side. She is survived by her sons Geoffrey (Betsy) of Charlotte, NC and David (Marty) of Irvine, CA, granddaughter Katy Chapman Kelsey of Denver, CO, grandsons David L. Chapman of Durham, NC, Matthew, David F. and John Chapman of Orange County, CA and six great grandchildren.
Nan was born April 7, 1927, in St. Louis, MO and lived in several states throughout the mid-west as a child. During World War II her father’s employer transferred him to Southern California and her family settled in San Marino. While living there during the latter part of the war years, Nan attended South Pasadena High School and graduated in 1945. From there she went back to the mid-west for two years and graduated from Stephens College (Columbia, MO) in 1947. Nan then attended the University of Southern California where she pledged the Alpha Phi sorority. It was during this time she met Paul Chapman, her beloved husband-to-be. During their 37 years of marriage they resided in Pasadena, San Mateo and San Marino, California, finally moving to Newport Beach where Nan and Paul spent many happy years together.
Nan was a loyal friend enjoyed numerous life-long friendships, some dating back to her early childhood. She took particular joy in watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to St. James Anglican Church, www.stjamesnb.org, and the Environmental Nature Center, www.encenter.org , both of Newport Beach.
Her memorial service will be held Friday, May 8 at 11 am in Grace Chapel at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach. St. James Anglican Church clergy will officiate. Grace Chapel is located at 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach, CA 92663.
