Morgan MD, Morgan Lord
Morgan died peacefully on August 20, 2012, in Corona del Mar, California, with his wife of 53 years, Mary, at his side.
Born March 25, 1933, in Oxnard, California to Kenneth Frederick and Phyllis Lord Morgan, Morgan spent his childhood in Los Feliz and his summers on Balboa Island. Morgan graduated with honors and as student body president from John Marshall High School in 1951. He did his undergraduate studies at University of California at Los Angeles. He was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and enjoyed remaining connected to his brothers by supporting their affiliated American Leadership Academy. Morgan graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine and did his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Los Angeles County/USC Hospital. He continued for a time as an Associate Clinical Professor.
Morgan married Mary Armistead in 1959. In 1963, he joined his brother Dr. Kenneth Morgan, Jr., in practice with Drs. Hanley, McDermott and McNulty in Los Angeles. He was passionate about his work and practiced for over 40 years in Los Angeles and Newport Beach.
Morgan was an avid sailor beginning with dinghies in Newport Harbor, later competing in various classes including Star, Lehman 12’s and Harbor 20’s. He skippered his family on the “Bristol Fashion”, a Grand Banks 32, and “Joy”, a Cal 2-46. Morgan served as Commodore of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club in 1982. Some of his favorite sailing and yachting memories included being first to finish the Transpacific race in 1953 on “Goodwill”, crewing in the 1961 Star Worlds in San Diego, many voyages on the “Jubilee” and “Wide Waters” cruising in the Pacific, an adventure with Mary on “Alaska Eagle” in the South Pacific and of course, many family outings on “Joy”. He was a member of The Cruising Club of America.
