Political Landscape: Fountain Bowl co-owner announces run for Fountain Valley City Council
Dave Osborn recently announced his bid for Fountain Valley City Council.
The longtime Fountain Valley resident held his campaign kickoff event for the November election at Fountain Bowl, where he is an owner.
Osborn is a past president of the Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce and is currently president of the Coastline Community College Foundation.
“I love Fountain Valley and I’m running for City Council to help keep this town a great city,” Osborn said in a statement. “My priorities for the city [are] to assure we keep our city a safe place, a well-maintained city and a thriving and prosperous place to live.”
Poseidon touts support from state politicians for desalination facility
Poseidon Water, which is looking to build an ocean desalination plant in Huntington Beach, said 65 California legislators support the project.
They include Assembly members Matthew Harper and Travis Allen, both of whom are Republicans from Huntington Beach, and state Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon (D-Los Angeles).
“We are grateful to have such broad, bipartisan support for this project,” Scott Maloni, vice president of Poseidon Water, said in a statement. “California needs to prepare for the effects of climate change, including severe drought. Orange County residents want to ensure they have water security in the future.”
The plant is expected to produce more than 50 million gallons of drinking water a day.
The project faces opposition from environmental groups, a coalition of which sued last year after the facility received regulatory approval from the State Lands Commission.
Former political blogger Geoff West honored by Costa Mesa group
Costa Mesans for Responsible Government, also known as CM4RG, honored longtime city resident and local political blogger Geoff West on Saturday during an event at the Costa Mesa Women’s Club.
For almost a dozen years, West provided information and commentary on local issues and events on his blog, “A Bubbling Cauldron.” He stopped publishing last year, citing health reasons and a desire to spend more time traveling with his wife, Susie.
CM4RG bills itself as a “grassroots, nonpartisan organization formed to encourage and promote high levels of openness, accountability, integrity and responsiveness in our city government,” according to its website.
