Fire crews extinguish trash blaze at Huntington Beach waste disposal facility
An indoor trash pile at a Huntington Beach waste disposal plant caught fire Thursday evening, authorities said.
Huntington Beach fire crews responded to Republic Services, formerly known as Rainbow Environmental Services, at 17121 Nichols Lane, after an automatic fire alarm sounded at the business at 6:53 p.m., said Battalion Chief Jeff Lopez.
When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from an indoor processing area.
Republic Services staff used dozers to push the rubbish pile outside while fire crews applied foam to extinguish the smoldering blaze, Lopez said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
