Man detained after saying he had a bomb in his vehicle outside Huntington Beach City Hall, police say
A man was detained and being medically evaluated Thursday evening after he told Huntington Beach police he had a bomb in his vehicle, police said.
Police received a call at 4:08 p.m. from a City Hall employee who noticed a man in the parking lot acting erratically, said Police Department spokeswoman Angela Bennett.
Officers arrived and called the Orange County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad out of caution, Bennett said.
The surrounding area was evacuated and Yorktown Avenue was closed to traffic between Main and Lake streets, police said.
However, the bomb squad did not find a suspicious device, Bennett said.
Huntington Beach police posted on Twitter at 6:24 p.m. that City Hall was clear and all roads in the area had been reopened.
No further information was immediately available.
