Driver killed in Huntington Beach crash may have lost control of vehicle, police say

A Huntington Beach man was killed in a crash early Sunday, possibly after losing control of his vehicle, police said.

The driver, identified as Rubio Avila Jr., 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Orange County coroner’s office and the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Police responded just before 2 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Brightwater Drive in Huntington Beach, police said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, it appears the driver was traveling east on Warner when he struck a curb and lost control, police said Sunday.

Further details were not immediately available Monday.

The coroner’s office said the cause of death had not yet been determined.
