Newport marks Armed Forces Day at the Field of Honor

Colorful military pageantry and the snap and flutter of 1,776 full-size American flags filled Castaways Park in Newport Beach during an Armed Forces Day ceremony Saturday.

The observance was the first of two planned at the annual Field of Honor display lining the park’s winding paths with flags for a week and a half this month. The next ceremony will be at noon on the Field of Honor’s closing day, Memorial Day, May 27.

Castaways Park is at 16th Street and Dover Drive.
