Ambulance strikes pedestrian in Costa Mesa en route to Hoag Hospital
An ambulance taking a patient to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach early Sunday struck a pedestrian in Costa Mesa, police said.
Paramedics were traveling south through the intersection of Newport Boulevard and 19th Street on a green light just after 4 a.m. when the ambulance hit a 24-year-old man who was crossing the road where there wasn’t a crosswalk, the Costa Mesa Police Department said.
The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
It was unclear whether the crash affected the condition of the patient in the ambulance.
Costa Mesa police are investigating the incident.
