Biz News: Newport Beach investment firm donates shoes to Santa Ana schoolchildren

Filipp Chebotarev and Polina Chebotareva, partners at Cambridge Cos. SPG, a Newport Beach-based investment firm, recently donated 400 new pairs of athletic shoes to Franklin Elementary School in Santa Ana.

The donation helped the entire student body. The children were individually measured to ensure they get shoes of the correct size.

Shoes That Fit, a Claremont-based nonprofit, also aided in the effort.

Hawaiian retail store opens

Kapa Collective, a Costa Mesa retail store selling items either produced or designed in Hawaii, has opened.

Special water store opens in Costa Mesa

Fried fish restaurant coming to Lido Marina Village

Circle Hook, a fried fish concept by the founder of Bear Flag Fish Co., is opening early 2018 at Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach.

According to the Orange County Register, the menu will feature locally caught and sustainable seafood such as black cod, red snapper and rock fish.

Circle Hook will be about 950 square feet and plans to have an indoor oyster bar.

Jim Abbott to speak in Newport

Retired Olympian and former major league pitcher Jim Abbott will give a keynote address in Newport Beach.

He will speak during the annual PACnet conference at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Spa. The conference is from Feb. 11 to 14.

Abbott played for the Yankees, Brewers, White Sox, Angels and University of Michigan.

Costa Mesa firm poised to acquire commercial properties

Donahue Schriber, a Costa Mesa-based real estate acquisitions and investment firm, is under contract to pay about $200 million for four centers in Washington state totaling 589,000 square feet.

The company is poised to acquire Point Fosdick Square in Gig Harbor; Covington Square in Covington; Lakeside at Canyon Park and Canyon Park Place, both in Bothell.

Boras rents Newport Coast home

Scott Boras, a sports agent known for its aggressive negotiating tactics, is renting his Newport Coast home for $8,950 a month.

The 4,150-square-foot, four-bedroom house at 11 Highpoint has ocean views, 4.5 bathrooms and a formal living and media room.

Boras’ company, Boras Corp., is based in Newport Beach.

Furniture outlet opens in Fountain Valley

A new furniture outlet store in Fountain Valley is having a soft opening before its grand opening in January.

Fashion Furniture Outlet is at 18225 Euclid St.
