Costa Mesa police are investigating three weekend burglaries in which thieves got into homes through open or unlocked windows, police said.

In the first instance, three men described as ages 18 to 25 entered through the unlocked window of a home in the 100 block of Flower Street about 10 p.m. Saturday, police Sgt. Matt Selinske said. The burglars took about $5,000 worth of electronics and jewelry, according to Selinske.

Between 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, someone took more than $15,000 worth of jewelry, laptops and iPads from a home in the 200 block of Ogle Street after removing a screen from a partially open kitchen window, Selinske said. Police had no description of the burglar.

About the same time, a burglar struck a home in the 200 block of Magnolia Street, Selinske said. Police had no description of the burglar or details about what was stolen, but Selinske said the thief entered through an open window.

Residents can help deter burglars by securing their homes, Selinske said.

“Keep your windows closed and locked,” he said. “If possible, keep your valuables out of sight and locked up in a safe.”
