Authorities are asking for help identifying a man whose body was found off Newport Beach this month.

Newport Beach police pulled the body to shore after they were called to the beach around 1:30 a.m. Oct. 11. The body was found just offshore near 32nd Street on the Balboa Peninsula. Since then, officials have been unable to identify the man or locate his family.

On Friday, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department released a sketch of the man.

Sheriff’s Lt. Jeff Hallock described him as 15 to 25 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 130 pounds with long black hair and brown eyes.

The man was wearing orange-and-white Hawaiian-print swim trunks and a black button-up shirt with faint vertical lines, Hallock said.

He also had a small scar on the right side of his neck from surgery, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The man is either white, Asian or of Middle Eastern descent, Hallock said.

Officials are investigating the death as an accidental drowning, but the coroner’s office has not announced an official cause of death, the Sheriff’s Department said. Newport Beach police said there were no signs of foul play.

Hallock said investigators hope the man’s next of kin can shed light on the situation.
