Irvine police are searching for a man they suspect of smashing a car window to steal several small items inside.

Authorities asked for help in identifying the man, who was recorded by a surveillance camera. Police said he broke into a parked car at the Avenue One Apartments on Scholarship in Irvine at around 7:45 a.m. Sunday.

After busting the window, he stole cables, a flashlight and batteries, according to a news release.

Police described the man as white, 30 to 40 years old, with brown hair, brown eyes and a large horseshoe-style mustache down to his chin.

He was wearing black-framed glasses, jeans and a red polo shirt with a “UCI” logo on it, police said. Authorities said he drove a white 2004 to 2006 Dodge Stratus with no license plate and some damage to the front bumper.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Det. Bill Hillyard at (949) 724-7177.
