Heal, an on-demand house call doctor app, has launched in Orange County.

Heal’s licensed doctors will visit patients — insured and uninsured — at their homes or offices for a fixed fee of $99 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.

The Santa Monica-based company was founded by Dr. Renee Dua and Irvine native Nick Desai, former chief executive of weight-loss app FitOrbit.

Patients can book appointments through Heal’s iOS or Android app, online at getheal.com or by phone at (844) 644-HEAL (644-4325).

Kawasaki donates motorcycle to Boys Town California

Irvine-based Kawasaki Motors Corp. said it will donate a motorcycle to Boys Town California during Kawasaki’s Night of Hope event on Saturday at The Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach.

The motorcycle, a 30th-anniversary edition 2015 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R, has a list price of nearly $16,000.

Boys Town California provides shelter and support services for troubled children and families.

Alegre Apartments open for low-income residents

Alegre Apartments in Irvine has opened with all 104 of its apartments leased and occupied.

The new complex, near Cypress Community Park off the 5 Freeway, features apartments with up to four bedrooms and amenities such as a pool, a children’s water feature, a barbecue area and a two-story clubhouse with a computer lab, kitchen and fitness center. All the apartments are priced to be affordable to low-income households.

Alegre Apartments was developed by AMCAL Multi-Housing Inc., which specializes in building workforce and low-income housing, and the Irvine Community Land Trust.

Axis Experience Center opens in Irvine

Axis Communications, a Sweden-based network video company, held a grand-opening ceremony recently for its new office and Axis Experience Center in Irvine.

The 8,000-square-foot Axis Experience Center at 18101 Von Karman Ave. features a 28-person training center, a 12-person conference room and a specialized engineering and technology lab available for partners, customers and industry associations to hold training, meetings and product tests. The space features more than 100 Axis cameras, many offering views of Irvine and the surrounding area.

“The concept behind the Axis Experience Center is about getting closer to our customers and truly providing them with an experience,” Fredrik Nilsson, general manager of Axis Communications, said in a statement. “Each Experience Center is tailored to meet the needs of the specific business area, highlighting the technology and segments that are most relevant to our customers. For example, in the Irvine location, you can see how frame rate and HDTV resolution are important when monitoring a gaming table or slot machine.”

The Irvine center will primarily serve the company’s West business area, which includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon and Washington.

Kia Motors to receive Philanthropy Day honor

Kia Motors of America, based in Irvine, will be among Orange County honorees on National Philanthropy Day next month. The company has been named Outstanding Midsize Business for its Volunteer Impact Program, which provides employees with paid time off to volunteer with the company’s charity partners in Orange County.

The 30th annual National Philanthropy Day awards luncheon produced by the Orange County chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals will be held Nov. 19 at Hotel Irvine.

Irvine hospitality company acquires N.Y. restaurant group

Irvine-based Independent Film Development Corp., a hospitality and entertainment company, announced its acquisition of C2C Restaurant Group of New York.

The first location of the business’s flagship restaurant, Chef Eddie G’s Kitchen, will open this year on Park Avenue in Manhattan.

Irvine’s Great Western Leasing & Sales acquired

Irvine-based Great Western Leasing & Sales, a distributor of truck trailers, has been bought by New York-based Headhaul Capital Partners and Pennsylvania-based Argosy Investment Partners.
