Newport officer hurt when patrol car crashes into tree
A Newport Beach police officer is expected to return home Tuesday after he was hospitalized with an injury suffered when his patrol car crashed into a tree Sunday afternoon.
The incident, reported shortly after 2 p.m. Sunday, occurred near the intersection of Jamboree and San Joaquin Hills roads.
The Police Department is investigating to determine the cause of the crash, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
The officer, whose name was not released, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Manzella said.
“Last I heard he’s doing much better,” she said.
