Man struck and killed by car while crossing MacArthur Boulevard in Newport Beach

A San Francisco resident was killed when a car struck him in Newport Beach late Saturday, police said.

Mohamad Abdelwahhab, 36, was crossing MacArthur Boulevard near Von Karman Avenue when a Toyota Yaris headed north on MacArthur hit him at around 11:45 p.m., according to authorities.

Police said Abdelwahhab wasn’t in a crosswalk.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

The Toyota’s driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to Newport Beach police.

Investigators said they do not think drugs or alcohol were involved.
