Man, 18, arrested in early-morning Irvine home burglary
An Irvine couple awoke to find a burglar in their bedroom early Friday, police said.
According to authorities, a woman in the home near Culver Drive and Meadowood woke up around 5:15 a.m. and saw a man trying to steal something from her nightstand.
When she roused her husband, the burglar fled through the home’s back door, according to police.
Two children also were asleep in the home at the time, police said.
Officers set up a perimeter and about three hours later saw a man walking out of nearby bushes, according to authorities.
An officer stopped the man, who police said had a black backpack containing a laptop and an iPhone from the home.
Police arrested the man on suspicion of residential burglary. Authorities later identified him as Brendan Taylor Filice, an 18-year-old Irvine resident.
Police asked that anyone with information about the burglary call Det. Keith Herter at (949) 724-7183.
