A Costa Mesa man died early Wednesday after a car struck him on Newport Boulevard in Newport Beach.

Newport Beach police responded shortly after 3 a.m. to a report from Costa Mesa police of a traffic collision at Newport Boulevard and Industrial Way.

Darin Wells, 44, was walking across Newport just south of Industrial when he was hit by an Audi A3 sedan traveling south on Newport, authorities said. Wells was pronounced dead at the scene, said police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
