Ex-Angel Josh Hamilton cuts the price on Newport Coast mansion to $15.88M

Former Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton, having struck out on a home sale thus far, has adjusted the price of his 10,850-square-foot mansion in Newport Coast to $15.888 million -- a price cut of $612,000.

Hamilton, who was dealt by the Angels to the Texas Rangers in April after a tumultuous offseason in which he suffered a substance-abuse relapse and filed for divorce, bought the house in 2013 for $12 million.

The Provence-style home, designed by local architect Will Hosband and built in 2013, sits on about half an acre in the Crystal Cove community with harbor and coastline views.

Inside, the loaded home features stone finishes, vaulted ceilings, chandelier-topped formal areas and an elevator servicing all three levels. A lower entertainment wing is decked out with a wine cellar, a game room, a home theater and an eight-car garage.

The master suite sports a fireplace, a large soaking tub and a walk-in closet for a total of six bedrooms and 8.5 bathrooms.

Outdoors, a wide loggia lined with stone arches centers on an infinity-edge pool and spa. An outdoor kitchen, formal landscaping and an expanse of grass completes the setting.

Since being reacquired by the Rangers, Hamilton, 34, has hit .254 with six home runs in 38 games, while making two trips to the disabled list. The 2010 American League MVP is owed about $80 million over the next three years, the bulk of which will be paid by the Angels.
