Biz News: Z’Tejas closing at South Coast Plaza

Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill in Costa Mesa’s South Coast Plaza is closing on Aug. 29.

News of the closure follows the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company’s bankruptcy filing in July.

In a statement issued last month about the bankruptcy, the company president and CEO, Steven Micheletti, said Z’Tejas will restructure its long-term debt and other financial obligations.

In an interview this week with the Orange County Register, Micheletti said closing the Costa Mesa restaurant — the chain’s only location in California — made financial sense. He said the South Coast Plaza location is profitable but not to the extent of the other restaurants in Arizona and Texas, which will remain open.
