Transportation projects moving along

A street improvement project for Costa Mesa’s Eastside is scheduled to conclude this month, according to a report from city CEO Tom Hatch.

The $6.1-million effort, funded by gasoline tax revenue and Orange County’s Measure M transportation money, resurfaced 66 streets totaling 3.8 million square feet, city officials said. The project area is bounded by Irvine Avenue to the east, Newport Boulevard to the west, 15th Street to the south and 21st Street to the north.

About 25,000 tons of asphalt and 2,500 tons of slurry seal went into the repair work. Crews also repaired various curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways.

Hatch’s announcement also said the $6.2-million Airport Area Improvement Project will begin this month. Gasoline taxes, Measure M money and a $900,000 grant are funding that effort, which will see the resurfacing of about 2.6 million square feet of streets in an area bounded by the 55 Freeway to the east, Airway Avenue to the west, the Masters Circle to the south and Airport Loop Drive to the north. Like the Eastside project, it will include the repairing of sidewalks, driveways and gutters.
