Costa Mesa police seek man posing as Edison contractor
Costa Mesa police are trying to identify a man who they say posed as a contractor for Southern California Edison while trying to access a female resident’s property.
A man rang the resident’s doorbell around 5:30 p.m. June 24, and when she answered, he said he was a contractor “checking out the trees for Edison” that needed to be removed, according to a post on the Costa Mesa Police Department’s Facebook page.
When the resident asked for identification, he showed her a badge bearing a company name of either “A+Metrics” or “A+Biometrics,” according to the Facebook post.
“Edison does not contract out to those companies,” police wrote.
The resident would not let the man on her property, and he left, according to police.
Authorities described the man as white and about 5-feet-10 with a medium build and short blond hair. He reportedly was wearing a green reflective vest.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the man call detectives at (714) 754-5637.
Officials say residents are not obligated to open their door for someone they don’t know.
“Please contact the police department if anyone suspicious comes to your door, and always ask for identification,” police wrote.
