Driver injured when SUV crashes into house in Costa Mesa
A 63-year-old driver was taken to a hospital after his vehicle crashed through a wall and into a house Monday night in Costa Mesa, according to police.
The man was driving an SUV east on Golf Course Drive when it ran a stop sign at Mesa Verde Drive at about 7:30 p.m., Costa Mesa police Sgt. David Casarez said.
After crossing Mesa Verde, the SUV crashed through a cinder-block wall and into the rear of a home on Amberleaf, according to authorities.
The family that lives there was home at the time of the crash, but no one inside was injured, Casarez said.
The driver, however, was taken to a trauma center, according to the Fire Department. He suffered a moderate head injury but is expected to survive, Casarez said.
No information was available Tuesday morning about what caused the crash, but police said alcohol was not involved.
