Firefighters make quick work of Talbert Park fire

Costa Mesa firefighters had to cut their way through overgrown brush and shrubs to reach a fire that broke out in Talbert Regional Park late Sunday night, according to authorities.

The flames burned about one-third of an acre before being doused, Costa Mesa Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond said. Four engine crews and two battalion chiefs responded and had the blaze under control in about an hour, according to Diamond.

The fire broke out around 11:15 p.m. about 100 yards into the southern portion of the park near the end of a cul-de-sac called Walkabout Circle, Costa Mesa Battalion Chief Kevin Diamond said.

“It’s just a thick overgrowth,” Diamond said of the area.

Firefighters stayed at the scene until about 1 a.m. dealing with hot spots and the dense vegetation, according to the Fire Department.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the fire.
