Motorcyclist killed in crash on 5 Freeway in Irvine
A 32-year-old San Juan Capistrano man died Monday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on the southbound 5 Freeway in Irvine, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The man, whose name was not released pending notification of his next of kin, was thrown from his motorcycle just after 11 p.m. and slammed into a guardrail near Alton Parkway, officials said in a news release.
The motorcycle, a 2008 Suzuki GSX-R750, kept moving for about 500 feet, according to a CHP officer’s report, and the rider ended up lying in a lane where at least two cars hit him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
It’s unclear why the rider lost control, the CHP said.
