Irvine man, 68, found safe after 5-day disappearance

A 68-year-old man who had been missing for five days was found safe Monday morning, Irvine police said.

Lee Whittenberg reportedly was last seen Wednesday leaving his Irvine home about 8:45 a.m. Police believed he disappeared without access to money, credit cards, a phone or a car.

On Friday, police distributed a picture of Whittenberg and asked for help in finding him.

Irvine police spokeswoman Farrah Emami said Whittenberg was “disoriented but in good condition” when he was found about 6:40 a.m. Monday. Officials did not say who found Whittenberg or where.
