A 17-year-old driver died Tuesday after a high-speed crash in Newport Beach, police said.

Spencer Becker, a Newport Coast resident, was ejected from the Chevrolet Suburban he was driving when it collided with a Toyota Corolla at the intersection of Jamboree Road and Bristol Street, according to authorities.

The Suburban was headed east on Bristol and the Corolla was traveling north on Jamboree when the two slammed into each other around 10:20 a.m., Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.

Paramedics took Becker to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, where he died at 1:45 p.m., according to the Orange County coroner’s office.

The Corolla’s driver didn’t need medical attention, and no one else was in either car, police said.
Police believe that at least one of the vehicles was traveling at high speeds, which contributed to the crash, Manzella said.

Debris that was sent flying by the collision struck a nearby Porsche, police said.

Police are still investigating the crash and asked that anyone with information contact Scott Grecco at (949) 644-3747 or [email protected].
