Man arrested after 7-hour standoff in Costa Mesa
Police arrested a man who they say was holed up in a Costa Mesa home with a gun and ammunition for almost seven hours Wednesday night after a domestic dispute.
At about 7:15 p.m., officers responded to a call in the 1000 block of Cheyenne Street about a man making threats involving a handgun, Sgt. Brent McKinley said.
Some residents left the home, but a man remained inside by himself, police said.
Officers contacted him by phone but he refused to come out, McKinley said.
The man repeatedly told officers to go to the door to talk with him, according to a police source who was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.
The man finally exited the home around 2 a.m. Thursday and was taken into custody, McKinley said.
After the arrest, police found a handgun and ammunition at the scene, McKinley said.
Police did not immediately release the suspect’s identity.
