OCC invites the public to sail or ride on its boats Saturday
Orange Coast College will have a dozen boats for the public to ride in during its fourth year of Discover Sailing.
The boats will be available from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the College’s School of Sailing and Seamanship in Newport Beach.
Guests of all ages may sail on the boats.
“Whether you want to try your hand at sailing or just enjoy being on the boat, that’s what this day is for,” Sailing Program Coordinator Mette Segerblom said.
The school’s sailing staff and instructors will teach guests how to operate the boat.
Discover Sailing will have four types of sailboats, each of different sizes. Staff will take guests out on these boats for 30- to 45-minute periods. Attendees may sail in more than one boat during the day.
Those interested in sailing may register at https://www.occsailing.com. But on-the-spot guests are welcome.
“Even if some decide to go last minute, we’ll find a place for them to sail,” Segerblom said. “We want as many people to have a chance to be in the water, whether you’ve done it before or if it’s your first time.”
The event will also raffle off three different prizes: a Beginning Sailing class, 20-hour session total; Youth Summer Sailing Camp, 28-hour session total; and a Safe Powerboat Class, 16-hour session total. All are classes offered by the school.
The sailing school is at 1801 W. Coast Highway in Newport Beach.
