A bicyclist died Thursday after falling near a busy Newport Beach intersection although his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, according to police.
The 61-year-old Costa Mesa man was biking on Jamboree Road and San Joaquin Hills Road at about 10:30 a.m. when he crashed, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.
Police initially thought he had struck a car but later determined there was no collision.
It’s possible the man had a medical emergency while biking, Manzella said. Paramedics took him to Hoag Hospital, where he died, according to police.
The Orange County Coronor’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine a cause of death, Manzella said.
