Newport auto auction features some cars of stars
If you’re into cars and stars and have the cash to back up your passion, the third annual Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction through Sunday at the Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort gives you a chance to bid on more than 450 autos, including a station wagon once owned by legendary actor and longtime Newport Beach resident John Wayne, a 1934 Ford formerly owned by rocker Eddie Van Halen and a 1971 Ford Thunderbird that used to be in the garage of actor Burt Reynolds.
Wayne’s 1975 Pontiac Safari comes with an eye patch from the memorabilia collection of his late son, Michael.
Van Halen’s ’34 custom sedan includes a guitar signed by members of his band, Van Halen.
The rest of the auction offers collectible European sports and American muscle cars, hot rods and vintage and modern custom models.
The action began Friday, and gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the auction starting at 11 a.m. General admission is $20.
The event includes food booths, a bar and vendors. To see a digital catalog of the auction, visit russoandsteele.com/newportbeach.
