Vintage cars, dancers, a color guard and musicians will line the streets of Balboa Island on Sunday morning for the 22nd annual Celebrate Balboa Island Day parade.

The parade, with the theme “Anchors Aweigh,” will begin at 11 a.m. on Bayside Drive, then cross the Balboa Island Bridge and head down Marine Avenue, eventually ending at the fire station.

The bridge will be closed at 10:30 a.m., so visitors are encouraged to get to the island early.

The celebration will continue through the afternoon at the Marine Avenue fire station with music and a beer garden.

Mary Pat Earl, a member of the Balboa Improvement Association which sponsors the event, said the parade has become somewhat of a kickoff for summer. She likened it to yacht clubs marking the beginning of the boating season.

“It’s an opportunity for the community to get together and celebrate,” she said.
