A national accrediting agency tasked with ensuring the quality of nursing programs gave Vanguard University in Costa Mesa its stamp of approval this week.

After an extensive review, the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education recognized the baccalaureate and master’s degree programs in nursing at the private university, according to a news release.

“The positive affirmation of accreditation status validates the work that we do daily in providing a program that equips nursing students for a spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service to the communities they serve,” Mary Wickman, director and professor for the nursing program, said in the release.

Vanguard University’s nursing program is designed for students who would like to become health educators, college faculty or community health leaders, the release stated.

The accredited status is important to students since it vouches for the rigor and high standard of the coursework, according to the release.

The baccalaureate degree program received accreditation for 10 years; the master’s program remains accredited for five years.
