Volcom hosts skateboarding competition in Costa Mesa

Skateboarders rolled up to the Costa Mesa headquarters of apparel brand Volcom on Saturday for a free hours-long contest.

Competitors in age categories of 14 and younger and 15 to 21 and in an open/amateur segment vied to be among the top seven contestants in each division, thus qualifying for a global championship event in Los Angeles in October.

Saturday’s contest began Volcom’s 2015 Wild in the Parks tour, which includes stops in Colorado, Argentina and Canada to find the best talent in amateur skateboarding.
