Motorcyclist dies after high-speed crash in Costa Mesa
A motorcyclist died after a high-speed, head-on crash at a Costa Mesa intersection Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to police, the 20-year-old motorcyclist was riding a 2004 Suzuki sport bike south on Fairview Road near Adams Avenue when he slammed into a 1998 Cadillac Deville headed north on Fairview shortly after 2 p.m.
Authorities said the driver of the Deville, a 19-year-old woman, was about to pull into a left-turn lane at the Villa Sienna apartments in the 2800 block of Fairview when the motorcycle crashed into the front of the car, police said.
Witnesses said the motorcycle was traveling at high speeds, according to authorities.
The rider was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was treated for a skull fracture, swollen brain and broken neck, police said. He died of his injuries later Sunday, according to Costa Mesa authorities.
The Orange County coroner’s office has not released the man’s identity or time of death. Police said he was a Costa Mesa resident.
Police are still investigating. The Cadillac’s driver cooperated with investigators and was released after questioning.
Police are asking that anyone with information about the crash call Traffic Investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
