Haggen grocery is open in Corona del Mar
Corona del Mar’s Haggen grocery store, in the former Albertsons, opened last week at 3049 E. Coast Hwy.
The Albertsons was part of a 146-store acquisition by Haggen, a Pacific Northwest grocery chain founded in 1933 in Bellingham, Wash.
In preparation for the new store, about 150 employees, working in shifts around the clock, cleaned the facility and removed Albertsons logos, replacing them with Haggen’s signature brown “H.” Remaining Albertsons-brand food items were donated to a local food pantry, an employee said.
Dan Gould, a Haggen district manager, said every Albertsons employee in the Corona del Mar store had signed on to work at Haggen.
According to a company news release, Haggen opened its first California store on March 11, when an Albertsons in Carlsbad was converted. That store was the first of 83 in the state that will become Haggens in the first half of this year, the release said.
