DUI suspect arrested after car smashes into store in Costa Mesa
A man suspected of drunk driving smashed into a convenience store in Costa Mesa before speeding off Sunday night, authorities said.
The crash destroyed the front doors of the Circle K at 111 Del Mar Ave. and left the building damaged enough that fire officials designated it unsafe, Costa Mesa police Lt. Greg Scott said.
Descriptions from two witnesses helped officers find the suspect and his car about a half-mile from the store, according to Scott.
The man complained of a head injury, so paramedics took him to Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach for treatment before police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run, Scott said.
Authorities identified the suspect as Victor Eisenreich, 55, of Costa Mesa.
No one was else was hurt in the crash, Scott said.
