Resort transportation adds Costa Mesa stops
Costa Mesa and Anaheim began a partnership Monday when officials announced an extension of the Anaheim Resort Transportation to the City of the Arts.
In adding Costa Mesa to its route, ART, the public transit system for the greater Anaheim resort area, will give passengers an alternate form of transportation to several stops along Bristol and Baker streets, including the Segerstrom Center for the Arts and South Coast Plaza.
Buena Park, Orange and Santa Ana are also on the bus route. The transportation service currently serves more than 9 million passengers annually and has 73 eco-friendly fleet vehicles.
The only money spent on the new route was for marketing, according to ART spokesman Todd Priest. He said marketing cost Costa Mesa $25,000, South Coast Plaza $30,000 and the Costa Mesa Conference & Visitor Bureau $60,000.
Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Lucille Kring spoke about the addition during a news conference Monday morning at the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC) in Anaheim, which opened in December last year.
“This route will provide Anaheim residents who may work in Costa Mesa a new transportation option,” she said. “The new route will also give new transportation options for Costa Mesa residents who travel to Anaheim to join us for an Angels game, a Ducks game or a convention.”
Costa Mesa Mayor Steve Mensinger said the partnership marked an exciting day in Costa Mesa and will allow its residents easy transportation to a nearby community.
“Costa Mesa is an international destination for leisure and business travelers,” he said. “Each year, Costa Mesa hosts millions of business travelers, and in Costa Mesa we are proud to be known as a city of the arts … and we are home to South Coast Plaza. Now through ART’s routes, residents and visitors in Costa Mesa and Anaheim will have the opportunity to experience the amazing venues and attractions in both communities.”
A one-day pass to ride the ART is $5 for adults and $2 for children ages 3 to 9. The pass allows passengers to travel all day with unlimited to stops to any of the ART’S destination cities. Multiday passes are also available.
