Sage Hill seniors make an on-campus Coachella
After months of planning, 12th-graders at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast did their best to re-create the Coachella music festival as part of a senior prank Thursday.
“SageChella” ran wild through campus with live music, purple aerosol chalk cannons, a 30-foot inflatable astronaut, watermelon stands and strobe lights.
Spearheaded by graduating seniors Sophie Rebeil, Helena Youhana and Milad Rohani, SageChella quickly became a viral sensation on social media, with more than 6,000 Twitter retweets and 2,000 Facebook likes — numbers that Lebeil said are still growing.
The senior class held car washes and other fundraising activities such as selling reusable water bottles to provide the day’s attractions.
The students also received support from the administration of the nonprofit, independent high school, Lebeil said.
“They help us set up, and that’s how it is every single year,” she said. “What’s really special about Sage is that the teachers and students can work together as a team.”
