Santa Ana Country Club isn’t for sale, despite a rush of offers
The Santa Ana Country Club is not for sale, its general manager confirmed Tuesday.
The club’s leadership recently received an unsolicited offer from a developer but wasn’t interested in selling the venerable country club.
“When word got out about that offer, other offers began flooding in,” said Joseph Wagner, the club’s chief operating officer and general manager.
The popular country club has served residents of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and other Orange County cities for 113 years.
It started as a nine-hole golf course called The Santiago Country Club in Peters Canyon in 1901 on land donated by James Irvine. More than 20 years later, Bradford and Bryan McCoy sold 144.29 acres in Santa Ana Heights to be developed as the new Santa Ana Country Club, according to the club’s website. The club has operated at 20382 Newport Blvd. ever since.
The club received nine offers from developers over a three-week period, but the board of directors confirmed that the land will not be sold, Wagner said.
