At least 33 cars in a Costa Mesa neighborhood were damaged by a vandal shooting a BB gun early Tuesday, police said.

Officers who arrived at about 3:30 a.m. found that about a dozen cars had been shot at in a housing tract where streets are named for birds.

Throughout the morning, more reports started rolling in about vehicles with broken windows, according to police.

“It was mainly windows shot out, using apparently a BB gun,” Lt. Vic Bakkila said.

The damage stretched along Flamingo Drive, Mandarin Drive, Goldeneye Place, Mallard Drive, Pelican Place and Albatross Drive, according to police.

A house on Pelican Place also was hit, Bakkila said.

Investigators believe the shots came from a car being driven through the area, Lt. Greg Scott said.

Police are working to identify all the victims. A damage estimate wasn’t immediately available.

Police asked that anyone with information about the case call investigators at (714) 754-5637.
