Tree planting makes Irvine a little greener

Volunteers fanned out along the Bommer Canyon trailhead in Irvine on Friday to plant 50 trees to help commemorate California Arbor Week.

LPA Inc., an ecology-minded design, architecture and planning firm, joined the Irvine Ranch Conservancy in Friday’s effort, which the firm calls an “opportunity to provide education to fellow community members about the benefits of sustainability and environmental stewardship.”

LPA, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, plans to plant 250 trees — 50 in each of the five cities where it has an office — to correspond with regional and national Arbor Day observances. The firm has locations in Irvine, Roseville, San Diego, San Jose and San Antonio.
